masonite for clipboards

Posted by Dale Smith on February 4th, 2002 04:23 PM

I'm looking for masonite that is rigid enough to make clipboard out of. I've used 1/8", but it seems a little flimsy. Our local stores do not carry 3/16", only 1/8" and 1/4" thicknesses. The masonite I'm using was smooth on one side only. I would like it to be smooth on both sides. The reason I'm making the clipboards instead of just buying some is the size. We're building a new plant and need to carry P&ID's in the field to mark up. The boards I've made are 12"X18". I've also made one board of Lexan, but there again 1/8" is too thin and 1/4" is too thick. Maybe you can point me in the right direction.
