I am in the process of buying a raised ranch style house that has a "composite board" exterior. The house was built in 1984, and the exterior seems in good shape. There is one soft spot on a seam that got wet. I have seen reports on the internet about class action lawsuits and a settlement for homes with "masonite". If this home is made of it, why is it in good shape? Are the some types of masonite that have worked well as siding? Will the house last with this stuff? Am I entitled to having it replaced even though it appears fine now?
