Hi, Kelly. Normally, I would suggest an environmentally safe stripper but not with marble. The strippers tend to soak down into the marble and can irrepairably damage it. I think that I would start by trying to find the best marble expert in your area. Check the phone book for cemetaries and ask them about marble suppliers. Visit several and see which one sounds like he makes the most sense. Funny, but if the fireplace surround was all wood, you could easily do it yourself. But if it is marble, you had best leave it to a pro.
