Maple Laminate Floor - Discoloration

Posted by Cassidy Chivers on May 31st, 2000 07:42 PM

Almost two years ago, I bought a condo in which Harris Tarkette maple wood laminate floor was installed. I should mention that I have floor to ceiling windows that let in a lot of sunlight. After about five or six months I noticed a DRASTIC change in the color of the wood beneath my area rug compared to the exposed area of the floor, especially near the windows. The exposed area has turned a yellowy gold, whereas the floor beneath the carpet has remained the traditional pale maple color. I contacted the developer and he basically told me this is normal with this type of floor. However, I am not so sure. I don't think the floor was sealed properly. There is a distinct line between the two colors. I can't imagine that any reasonable person would view this as "normal." Does anyone out there have any experience with this problem or with Harris Tarkette in general? Please advise as soon as possible!!! I am so frustrated, because I think I am getting the run around. Thanks.
