Many builders are doing this WRONG!!! Tyvek 101...

See this excellent article to see how to do it right (url copied below). Tyvek is no different than tar paper, or any other flashing material in regards to how water interacts with it as a backup leak barrier. On windows and doors, the tyvek MUST be lapped OVER the window flashing. This involves either cutting the tyvek to slip the header flashing up into it, or putting a strip of tyvek over the header flashing and up to the next seam and tuck it up into that seam. If this isn't done correctly then you WILL have leaks and expensive repairs will be needed to drywall, window frames etc. etc.
