mantle height

I normally set my mantle heights on real fireplaces(not gas burning)anywhere from 14" to 16" abve the firebox opening.By mantle,I mean the mantle cap or projected part of the mantle.Flat work,such as panels or moulding build-ups should start above your stone or brick so there is an equal reveal around your firebox.
