Low Voltage

Jeff and Tom,
I have a similar system. The multimeter reads 15 volts. Most of the ceiling lights and the outside flood lamps are on the low voltage switches. The control wires go from the wall switches to a panel in the basement. The fixtures themselves are 120 and are connected to the same basement panel. One neat feature is a central control switch (one in the kitchen and one upstairs in the master bedroom) wchic works almost every light in the house from one location. Since no one in my house seems capable of remembering to turn the lights off, I appreciate this feature.
But everything breaks down eventually. I can't find the original switches anywhere (I think this is a GE system) so I'm trying to use regular 120 wall switches. The defective ones I'm replacing are two pole ... they work from two locations but naturally they aren't wired like regular 120 switches. Very confusing. ...
