Long hairline cracks in new basement floor.. Help??

Posted by Steve on February 10th, 2003 12:50 AM

Hi all! I am closing on a new home in about 4 weeks. I went inside today and noticed that there are very long, straight hairline cracks accross the entire basement from front to back and from side to side. They also all seem to be in-line with the support poles. I live in the Chicagoland area so its cold out here in the winter. From the beginning of construction I was concerned that they would pour the concrete in the cold months. They poured in January. Now that these cracks are here, I'm worried.. Do these cracks sound normal? Do you think the builder is responsible? Should I consider backing out of the deal? Please help! Thanks in advance.
