load bearing walls

Posted by bird on February 2nd, 2001 08:08 PM

Recently, my husband made an opening between the kitch & diningroom over what I believe to be a load bearing'
wall (re-inforced beams in the basement). I would like to know if the small cracks I see in other rooms in the walls & ceilings (usually around the doorways & windows)are any indication that something is going wrong. Or would turning the heat way down during the day create these cracks? Would only the remaining portion of the wall that was removed show signs of shifting?
