In the village where I live, my next door neighbor is unconcerned about keeping his trash securely covered and as a result we were overrun with "critters". Your first step is to remove any potential food sources and then contact your village or town police department. Mine provides an enclosed, humane trap to catch the animals in, and when an animal is caught I call, they come out and take it away to be euthanized and return the trap. It is usually illegal to trap and relocate wildlife. I've found summer sausage is excellent bait, and so far have scored 2 skunks, 5 possums, and 4 raccoons. A skunk is a serious threat to your family, as they have a higher potential for carrying rabies then other critters as well as the extremely noxious defense they employ. The feces all animals leave in the area will also invite disease as well.
