linoleum/carpet removal

Posted by Kristi in TX on March 6th, 2003 02:10 AM

We are laying ceramic tile in several rooms of our house as part of a larger remodeling project. Some of this tile has already been laid. We are now ready to lay it in our kitchen. Big problems!! Under the kitchen carpet (which was put down using tack boards) is another layer of carpet. This carpet is not removing easily because it is glued to what appears to be the original floor covering--linoleum. This is glued as well. Our home was built in the early 60s, and after doing some internet research, I now have to worry that this linoleum has asbestos in it. I have a young son who has been around (and even helped) while my husband and I have ripped and torn this crap up. I am in a panic!! We really need to get down to the original floor so that the ceramic tile will be level throughout the house. Can anyone tell me what to do next?
