linear feet is what you read on a tape measure or ruler, the measurement of distance or length that everyone is familiar with.
for countertops, Wick is right, your measurement is wall to wall, each side measuring to the longest point of the miter (the back edge in this case). the linear measurement is the same regardless of width.
when you multiply linear feet by the width, as Jay mentions, the result is square feet, a measurement of area.
