the biggest problem with installation of surge protectors and lighting rods are very simply that they are installed wrong in florida electrical minimum calls only for two 8 foot rods to be spaced 6 feet appart well for tripping a breaker thats just fine but lightining strikes are a different beast . It requires the deepest ground possable 20 feet min sometimes 30-40 feet but bedrock can sometimes prevent this. the other biggest problem is with bonding and corrosen of the grounding wires. just a little info fyi i was searching for a sourse of lighting cable and roof rods supplyer in my area but most all electrical supplyers are stumped as to where to find such
