lightening stain

It can be done, Diane, but it is a very difficult, messy, time and labor intensive process. You have to strip the wood of any surface finish and then bleach the old stain color out. Some stains react with household bleach, some with oxalic acid, and some only react to a combination of the 2 that is somewhat dangerous. I know that your 6 panel doors were not cheap but I really don't think that I would like to go through a process like bleaching the wood on all the doors in my house, no matter what.
