Hi Barb:

Sorry for the delayed response. Been on vacation and just got back this AM...

I've done this once before, and I did it this way.....

Jacked up the middle of the old support beam, then shimmed the posts with shim-stock. This still left me 2 inches or so of sag.

pulled up the pine floor and "sistered" onto sagged 2X floor joists 1X stock on each side of the 2X's so that the new 1X's made the floor flat. I then reinstalled the original wide pine boards, which required some bending. This worried me a bit, as they were quite dry, but they seemed to adapt ok. I thought about soaking them in water for a day or so prior to bending them to fit over the new flat floor, but they seemed to readapt ok. They finished out beautifully!!!
