Leveling on gypsum in shower

Posted by Frans van Zon on November 26th, 2002 09:07 PM

I have a 4 feet x 1 foot horizontal "bench" in my shower cabin that apparently got wet on the inside. I removed the tile, a layer of tile mortar and gypsum (bathtub backing, the green stuff) and two layers of pressed wood.

Then I reinstalled the wood and a new layer of gypsum. As it turns out, the guy who built my house did not really level this little bench as it is about half an inch lower on the left side than it is on the right. Result: I cannot get my tiles in leveled.

The builder, as it turns out, resolved this with an additional layer of tiles in some areas and a lot of mortar. Result: a bumpy surface. I want to get this leveled out nicely, without having to reconstruct my entire shower. Is there a leveler product I can pour over the green bathtub backer (gypsum) board, let dry and apply the tile on top of it.

Thanks to anyone who can help!
