Your idea doesn't sound all that crazy...if you have the time and energy...and patience. Lots of patience...and energy...and time. That's how many folks get the best old floor boards.

If you have little experience with the tools of demolition, and this might sound crazy, go to the closest big box home improvement store near you, and ask at the "pro desk" for help in learning how to use the tools they sell for that purpose. The tools are nothing fancy or expensive. It's more of a task that requires a little effort and finesse. You'l break a number of boards, but it can be done.
