Pammy,An exterior solution to your leaking basement is not always the best solution. As you mentioned ,the destruction to everything from shrubbery to drive ways, walk ways, patios etc can be horrendous.Bear in mind also, that you may have to choose the solution to your problem without ever knowing the SOURCE of the water flow. If,for example, water is leaking from under the floor, the problem cannot be resolved by exterior work. Exterior systems are also subject to fairly rapid deterioation because of their exposure to dramatic shifts in weather conditions(rainfall, temperature, etc.)brought on by seasonal changes.Interior systems,on the other hand, can often be installed ,even in finished basements, with somewhat less fan fare, but its dirty heavy work none the less. When built from the correct materials and properly installed these systems can be terrific. But therein lies the rub. There is little consensus in the badly fragmented and almost completely unregulated basement waterproofing industry abuot how an effective interior system should be built. In the final analysis, you need to arm your self with more information before you make any decision-certainly before you meet with any contractor. If you want to learn more, please review my book on this subject at Best Wishes,Jack Masters
