Thanks Dora for your comparison of heat based removal vs scraping. I myself am embarking on repainting a badly weathered clapboard exterior and to that end purchased a warner heat plate by mail order and when I recieved it it of course warned against using on lead based paint. Dang, since most pre 70s paints are lead based just what is this product good for? It was advertised in OLD HOUSE journal...I presumed it was a standard tool for the job. I would like to use it...otherwise im stuck with patches of paint thicknesses that will spoil my hard efforts (top coat is acrylic and won't feather out)....isnt there a any kind cartridge respirator that would filter the nasty stuff?? Can someone help me before I do damage to my IQ...??!!!
