I would like to utilize part of my extra deep garage and make a laundry room in the back area. I would like to put a pocket door from the interior (kitchen) into this area. This area would be raised a couple of feet as the kitchen is about 5 steps up from the garage level. There is a full, block basement under the main house.
If I try to do this
1. Does anyone know the recommded depth of a garage? I don't want to eat up too much space as to make the garage unusable for a vehicle.
2. Can plumbing be run against an exterior wall (in upstate NY where it gets coooold)?
3. Any good web sites for things like how much should one calculate, spacewise, that framing (with drywall) will take when drawing plans? Or how much space is recommended for a normal walking area between two adjacent areas? I know interior decorators have recommended minimums but I can't seem to find anything answering these questions on the web (must not be a good searcher.)
