The tub should have many holes in it to prevent floating. Ideally the tub has a filter of drain rock around it to prevent sediment from entering the tup and clogging the pump, but I generally set the pump on a small paving stone or brick so there is some room for the sediment to accumulate in the bottom. You should periodically remove sediment from the tub and check the pump.
