Last chance for answer re:Basement vapor barrier

Posted by Brian K. on August 10th, 2000 10:11 PM

I am beginning to finish my basement and would like one final round of comments concerning the use of a vapor barrier under the wallboard walls. Owens-Corning recommends the use of a vap. barrier while "Fine Home Bldg." magazine suggests not using one.
I am using metal studs w/ a 1" min. airspace b/tween concrete foundation and framing. I am concerned about whether either method will add to the drywall absorbing excess moisture, espesially during the humid summer months. I have coated the foundation w/ "Drylock" sealant to help reduce transmission of dampnessand considered venting the airspace to the outside by cutting in a few vents into the overhang that supports the front window.
