Additionally to all the good advice already given, you may want to consider adjustable low voltage downlights instead of standard PAR units. Cost and size of the recessed unit is about the same, but the trim is more expensive. Much more of a custom residential feel, smaller fixture openings better overall finished result. A symetrical 'pattern' is more typical of office applications -- put 'em where you need 'em...
