Laminate vs. Wood Floors

I live in the California high desert. At 4,000
ft. elevation, the humidity level is very low, and
we can have very cold (as low as 0 degrees in
severe years) winters. Wood shrinkage is a very
strong consideration in this environment. We are
even concerned with shrinkage of a laminate such
as Pergo, although our Congoleum flooring (10
ft. wide pieces) has fared well. Any thoughts?
We've decided not to use ceramic tile because of
movement in our raised plywood subfloor (this is
also earthquake country). Sorry to ramble on...
