laminate countertop and laminate seam placement

Posted by Rich Evans on November 6th, 2002 06:43 PM

I am having a kitchen countertop fabricated. The fabricator has said there will be a seam in the laminate in the narrow strip between the splash and the sink and, again, in the narrow strip in front of the sink (I suppose he can reduce the usage of laminate material by doing this). He says 'everybody does this and it's never a problem'. I'm skeptical (regarding the likelyhood of water being splashed on the area and absorbed by the underlying particleboard). I told him that I think any seams ought to be as far as possible from any likely water splash areas. My wife never lets water lay anywhere on our current countertop, BUT, these areas, in my view, should not have any seams. What do you think? I appreciate your response.
