laminate and engineered flooring install questions

Posted by Christopher Logan on April 14th, 2003 02:38 PM

I am installing laminate flooring on my cement slab. This is a very small room, which will be used as an office. The directions suggest that I install as a floating-floor, utilizing a foam pad that is supplied. I am concerned that my desk chair's movements will cause the floor to shift, over time. Am I better off installing with the floating method, or glueing the laminate planks down? Should I use a moisture barrier/sealer on the concrete?

I am also having an installer put a Kaars engineered floor in my living room-dining-room area, also on the slab. They have asked me whether I'd prefer to have it floating or glued-down. Which would be better? Should a concrete moisture barrier/sealer be applied here?
