Lacquer Thinner

Lacquer thinner isn't "wet" so it won't damage the drywall, but you do want to use a minimum of the stuff. It was suggested to me that lighter fluid may also work (the type used in pocket lighters, not for charcoal). I think the primary concern is that the solvent used must not leave an oily residue which would interfere with the new paint.
