assess the feasibility of building up. he should be licensed and certified to be a good judge of whether the existing framing and slab is strong enough to carry a second floor. He may even hire the services of a structural engineer to help in making this determination. once he concludes one way or another ,,he can then work with you to draft up a set of drawings/plans for your new addition. cost for his efforts will vary by state, etc. cost to add a second story will be anywhere from 50,000 to over 100,000 dollars. I would suggest you get several good estimates for the work. good luck. LJ
