Hi, Corine. There is a lot of disagreement on this subject, as a search of the board will tell you. Personally, I don't feel comfortable with a wood floor in the kitchen--or a bathroom either. A wood floor, either solid or laminated, can be used but you really have to be careful with water and with kids and pets. If you elect to go with a laminated wood floor, be sure you check the warrantee for what kinds of damage are not covered. Different manufacturers have different standards for coverage.

If tile is in the picture, and the budget, that is where I would start, particularly if you want low maintenance.
