Contact Sears they will probably send you a free owner's manual. I doubt that the manual will help you much in trouble-shooting.
The manual will tell you to check for salt bridges. Use a "Clean" broom stick to break-up salt bridges. Your tank should be about 41-42" tall so the broom stick should go all the way to the bottom. Poke at the salt in three or four areas to break-up the any salt bridges (if that is you're problem). In most cases, that isn't the problem, Kenmore softeners are NOT very reliable I've gone through three of them now, one lasted about 6 months. Sears won't make service manuals available to the public.
