your problem in the attic.. sounds like your water pipes have been disturbed during the rebuilding of your roof. generally pipes will chatter like this if they are not well tied down to the joist to prevent vibration when water is flowing --the turbulent water flow thru them will tend to make them vibrate.. Raymond our resident plumbing professor on the board has a better technical explanation of what is going on ..but its basically what I mentioned thats going on...creating the noisy rattling pipes. Call a plumber in to fix your problem. good luck.. post back with his findings to share with the board. LJ
