Are you in the area around Wimberly?

Anyway, you do want to make sure that your NEW slab is solid and firm and will not pull down or push up the old.

One thing for sure, get a heavy duty concrete drill and drill a series of 12 inch holes in the old foundation about 4 inches or more down and about every 14 inches and in a nice row. This is where you will insert the rebar to tie the new into the old.

I would consider fixing an expansion joint along this line also so that they will move independantly if need be.

I do like your area of the woods.
