Before I add more blown in isulation to my attic, I noticed the wiring to be sub-par. Alot of wires were joined together by electrical tape. Some ceiling boxes had way to many wires going to them for the size of the box (already had one fixture blow up from a direct short in the ceiling box.
I plan on adding alot of junction boxes in the atttic to break up the overcrowding in other boxes, not to mention the splices wrapped in tape. I am concerned that people say junction boxes must be accessible. I plan on putting them ontop of the rafters if I can, so the new insulation will not cover them so much,,,or can I actually go ahead and not worry about covering them with blown in insulation. One more thing....if I join wires with wire nuts in these boxes do I have to pretwist the wires before they go into the nuts?(I think I do). Is putting electrical tape around the nut a good idea??
