I have two units that are 10 years old next month. I do most of the work on them myself. I have had no major problems with the units. I have replaced the contactors every 3 years. They were still working but I figured it was time to replace them. I have replaced the blower motor in one unit. My problem is leaks. I became EPA certified just so I could buy and replace the R-22 myself and save a $45 to $60 service call. Home units do fall under the law that requires that leaks must be repaired. If they become large leaks, the cost of the R-22 will make you repair them.
