Jacking a house to level the floors

I have a 20 year old house (3 story) with some sagging in the main beams (0.5 inch to 1 inch in some places). Is jacking up the beam to try to level the floor worthwhile? I realize it will cause cometic cracks, etc. in the drywall finishing, but can it cause structural damage? The sagging is evident on all three floors to varying degrees.
