I have recently removed ivy from 2 pine trees and another tree, and I found the easiest method is: Cut the ivy at the base (for me, I cut all the ivy at the base of the tree). Let it go for a few days, but not too long or the ivy will dry and become easily breakable. Then, go back and yank the ivy from the "stem" at the bottom. What happened to me is that it just fell right off - the little tendrals loosened up because the stems were severed, and they ended up falling down with a strong yank. Good luck!
