If I were going with hardwood flooring in my kitchen, I would definately go only the real wood no laminates. Laminates in the kitchen just will not work. Grease, hot grease, chemicals, drops and etc.

I would definately consider re sale value and how the market considers hardwood in the kitchen.

The only down side on this in the kitchen would be dropping things, grease splatters, and water leaks around the sink, refer, dishwasher and etc. Hardwood flooring does not do well when wet.

Then I would make sure its sealed very well.

There are flooring that is much better suited to this area of the home that looks great.
