Take it from the one who gets the phone calls, it will come back to haunt you!
Building permits are cheap insurance to protect you from yourself as well as others doing work for you.
Speaking of insurance, doing work without the proper permits may void part, if not all, of your coverage in the event of a claim. (I have talked to adjusters before and they look fo any reason not to pay)
If you have a neighbor, at some point they will dime you out, (usually after a tax revaluation), if your taxes are less than theirs. On the Q.T. of course!
If you sell the property through a real estate agent, they should check the building records to see what is legaly there, Not assessing records.
If new owners apply for, or get a permit for work in that that area, new furnace etc., upon the inspection, the non permitted work will show up and you and your realtor could be sued.
How is that $20-$30 permit looking now?
Thank you Steve for jumping on this. As you pointed out, We are NOT a site that tells people to break the law!
We would not be helping people with building projects if we ended up getting someone killed or sued.
