Lets see.. a 1 gpm nominal flow rate into the pit, 60 min/hr, 24 hr/day, 7days/week. I come up with a sump pit 400+ feet deep to store the weeks worth of water.
John, I like the idea of a water powered pump. Either powered by positive displacement or venturi action, depending on the amount of lift required. The electric could go out, and chances are you would still have city water pressure. (Unless of course, you have a well with your own electric powered pump)
How about gravity drain if you live on a sloped lot?
