I am faced with replacing the basement shower stall in my home. The current installation is a Builder's Square special that the framing was built especially for. The drywall not covered by the unit has decayed due to the water and the stall unit itself is shot. Rather than try to get a new unit through the door, around the inevitable corner etc. etc. I would rather take out all of the drywall and the unit and put up cement board on the same framing. I plan to tile the cement board. Would this work- or I should say, how best to make this work? Also, the current installation includes a floor pan- take that out and just tile the floor? I have no experience with tile, but love an excuse to read a ton of books and dive in! Please let me know if this is feasible. Thanks! (from the downstairs tenant who is sick of the old shower)!
