My basement has had water seepage thru hairline cracks in the floor twice in 6 months (both times were after unusually high rainfall). We've called several waterproofing companies, all of whom want to break a trench around the perimeter of our basement to install a drainage pipe (French drain) and sump pump. This is very labor intensive and costly. My question is this: how effective would it be to simply install a pump below the floor? I have to believe that this would sufficiently lower the water level below my floor, thereby preventing seepage, and would be considerably less labor and cost intensive. Thanks in advance for any comments.
