My wife and I are puchasing a 1895 Brownstone. We noticed the stairs going up to the 2nd floor and the 3rd floor were sloped to one side which would be the center of the house. When we had the house inspected the inspetor found that one of the center beams was sagging and had a notch cut into it and some horizontal bemas were cracked causing the slope. The floors are not noticeably sloped. My questions is this wwant to fix the stairs but are afraid or more sloping occuring. How do we stabilize the slope without ajckign up the house and costly wil this be?
