Insurance policies do not typically cover roof damage that results from faulty installations by contractors and won't cover roofs that were not installed in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions.

Leaks caused by poor maintenance and the resulting water damage are also normally exempted from all coverage.

Only thing that is covered by most insurers when it comes to roofs is damage caused by falling limbs, blowing debris, hail or other catastrophes...and most insurers will only pay a pro-rated amount of the replacement cost based on the amount of 'lifespan' left in the damaged shingles.
