there is a technique of attaching exterior trusses
with a 6inch gap done via a plywood gusset so
that R19 batts can be installed,plus truuses to
make a peaked roof over the roof with space for
12 inches of insulation giving R40,then it can be
finished with any siding you like,though you would
want to allow it to breathe so as to keep the
insulation dry,a small Sunspace could also be
added along the south side and its a good time to
incorporate Solar hotwater integrated in new roof.
