insulating steel tubes

Posted by Don on December 9th, 2002 08:13 PM

building residential addition framed at corners with 4x4 steel tubes, which penetrate roof and run about 42" above roof (for handrail on roof deck). concerned about air in tubes cooling in winter and dropping to bottom, creating insulation problem and possible condensation. what should i fill these tubes with? concrete? polystyrene beads? styrofoam peanuts? any ideas?
