installing glass door frame for fireplace

Posted by jdc on February 5th, 2003 02:28 PM

I moved into a home that does not have a frame and doors for the fireplace, it uses a sceeen front. I bought a frame with doors but have a problem. The bricks (white stone type bricks) are very uneven and stick out the face of the fireplace at all differnt distances. When I put the frame up to the bricks there are huge gaps in places. Anyone have any advice on this matter? I suppose I could grind down the brick to fit flush, but that would be a major task and mone heck of a mess ( and am not sure how to do this). Insulation is a option, but that would not look very pleasing unless I had some kind of sealing frame to butt against the frame to hide the insulation. Thank you for your advice. jdc
