Installing Ductwork for a Pellet Stove...

Posted by woodyak on February 11th, 2003 02:56 PM

I'm moving to 1600 sq. ft. split-level ranch home that has electric heat. I am putting a pellet stove in the family room downstairs to cut down on the bills. The room has a door that goes to an open stairwell that leads to the upstairs. I have reasonable access to space between the false ceiling and 2nd floor.

I plan on installing a ceiling fan in the stairwell to suck the hot air up. I'd also like to install a real basic duct system that would force some of the air into the dining room, living room, bathroom, and 3 bedrooms. I was thinking of running 4" flexible vinyl ductwork to each room with a either a floor or wall register. Ideally, I would install a small fan in each of the runs to suck the heat into the rooms. I figure I can do all the work except the electrical by myself.

Is my idea do-able? Does anyone have a better idea for dispersing the heat throughout the house?
