Installing a new ceiling fan light.

Posted by Pat O'Brien on May 15th, 2000 07:00 PM

I am replacing a ceiling fan light in my home, which was built in 1956. I have unpacked the new fan and see the green grounding wire attacted to it. The ceiling electrical box in my house only has a black and a white wire. Where do I attach the green wire? I have looked in all of my home improvement books and they all assume there is already green wire coming from the ceiling box. I want a safe installation, but prefer to keep it a do-it-yourself project. I would appreciate any input you can give me into this installation.
