I would strive to find the studs. Find one and you find them all. If your stud finder is not working properly, then use the 8D finish nail procedure and hammer around making woodpecker holes until you find one, then measure 16 inches and maybe 24 inches to find the other.
Cabinets are heavy, then loaded up with "stuff" they become more heavy. I would strive to find the studs and SCREW the cabinets into the studs and apply a washer over the screw head so they do not suck in too far and become weak.
This could be the opportunity to purchase a Zircon Stud Finder with electrical finder capabilities also. This sells for about $60 and works great. You also might want to know where those wires are also.
