most times a load bearing wall can be removed safely..by replacing them with a properly sized beam that spans the new opening while stil support the load from above. I suggest you consult a certified licensed architect ,,,who will use the services of a licensed structural engineer to assess the feasibility of wall removal and will design /specify the proper sized replacement beam required. If its a one story home this will be easier to do vs. on a two story home. good luck. LJ
